Our non-profit organization, Post Pro Cares, is committed to empowering communities by providing assistance and support to underrepresented individuals. In line with the organization’s mission, we provide training programs and transition courses for individuals who were previously incarcerated and/or are currently in the process of reintegrating into society.
Through our transition courses, we were honored to lend our support to a remarkable individual, Gerald Toney. Allow us to share with you his inspiring story.
Gerald Toney spent his formative years in the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee. However, in 2013, he was incarcerated and was unfortunately labeled by many as one of the most notorious individuals in the community. He was set free from the Federal Penitentiary in 2021.
Aware of the challenges experienced by former convicts, he found himself on the brink of losing hope.
“Really, you can’t get a job. You can’t get a good job because, you know, you already got a background, you can’t get good housing. They’re gonna do a background check. You know, a lot of people mess up. They say you want a second chance, but just it’s not a second chance. You gotta go jump through so many loops and hurdles to do anything.”, Gerald says.
According to Gerald, it can be quite challenging for individuals from his background to secure a job and find suitable housing due to the prevailing societal stigma they encounter.
Driven to overcome those challenges, he reached out to his childhood friend, Rashad Jones-Jennings, who is now the CEO & Chairman of Post Pro Capital.
Through Post Pro Cares, Gerald learned about real estate by reading real estate books and actively participating in one-on-one training sessions. Gradually, he discovered his interest in numbers as well as his innate talent for constructing houses.
Now, Gerald has taken on the role of Site Manager for Post Pro Capital’s much-awaited micro home development project, Valentina Estates, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
“The same energy and same hustle that I once channeled in the streets, I’ll put into this. So now this is my chance to rebuild the city that they’re saying that I helped tear down. You see what I’m saying? So that’s why I just put my whole head forward.”, Gerald says.
This just goes to show that with hard work and determination, new opportunities can be opened. We hope that Gerald’s story will serve as an inspiration to individuals facing similar circumstances.
Rashad Jones-Jennings, also known as “Shadzilla,” was born and raised in a small town in Chattanooga, Tennessee. From a young age, he learned about the harsh realities of life, gaining a firsthand understanding of the longstanding socio-economic disparities that his community grapples with. From a tender age, he observed how the absence of homeownership opportunities, quality education, and job prospects made a significant impact on his community.
Regardless of his circumstances, Rashad was determined to write a different narrative for his life. He excelled academically and received an academic scholarship. And then through basketball, he then received a sports scholarship. With his unrelenting passion for sports, he made a name in the world of professional basketball. Over the course of eight years, he played for a host of teams throughout Europe, South America, and Asia. In 2015, he made the unexpected decision to retire from basketball due to injury; however, his journey to success was still far from over.
In preparation for his transition to real estate, he immersed himself in real estate books and equipped himself with the knowledge needed to succeed in the industry. With his perseverance, he obtained licenses as a real estate agent in both Georgia and Tennessee and eventually obtained his broker’s license. Fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a Real Estate Developer, he decided to shift his focus toward developing communities.
Today, Rashad serves as the Chairman & CEO at Post Pro Capital. Leveraging his expertise in acquisitions, management, and structuring multi-million dollar developments, he aims to bring Post Pro Capital to new heights.
Despite his numerous endeavors, he remains deeply rooted in his hometown. Through Post Pro Capital, he aims to revitalize neighborhoods in and around Chattanooga, and he aims to inspire and motivate the young people in his hometown to pursue a career in real estate.
May Rashad’s story serve as a reminder that through hard work and perseverance, with a strong foundation of knowledge, and combined with the right opportunities, and with all these elements aligned, anyone has the potential to succeed in life.
